President Joe Biden has lost so many Democrats in his lies that even CNN is ripping him for his most recent claim. He was speaking at a Thursday virtual event commemorating the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur when he started talking about the Tree of Life synagogue shooting.
Biden claimed that he visited the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh after the 2018 terror attack. A man with an AR-15 carried out an attack during Saturday morning Shabbat services, killing 11 worshipers and wounding 6 people including Holocaust survivors. The shooter constantly espoused white supremacist and anti-Semitic beliefs on social media and shouted “All Jews must die” while he opened fire during the service. It was considered the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in US History.
Biden said he remembers speaking with the people at the synagogue, but Barb Feige, executive director of the Tree of Life, said that Biden has never visited there in the three years since the attack.
“I remember spending time at the – you know, going to the – you know, the Tree of Life Synagogue, speaking with the – just – it just is amazing these things are happening – happening in America,” Biden said.
CNN’s Kate Bolduan pointed out how Biden was “taking heat” for falsely claiming that he went to the Pittsburgh synagogue when he never actually went there. Fact-checker Daniel Dale said there’s a “big problem here” since Biden did not ever visit the synagogue. CNN adds that they did not find any news articles that could corroborate that Biden ever visited. Dale went on to say it could be “possible” he may have spoken to someone from the synagogue via phone, but that there’s “just no evidence” to support his visit claims.
“This was the president telling Jewish leaders in advance of the high holidays that he remembered ‘spending time’ at the site of an anti-Semitic massacre, going to the site of the anti-Semitic massacre. And there is just no evidence this is actually true,” Dale said.
Former President Donald Trump visited the Tree of Life three days after the hate crime and was joined by his daughter Ivanka Trump, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. Trump was shunned by the mayor of Pittsburgh and the governor of Pennsylvania for the trip. They blamed him for the “heightened political tension” in the country and said they would object to the president’s “barbed rhetoric.” The Rabbi of the synagogue, however, told Trump that he was always welcome at the place of worship.
A White House representative tried to repair the damage and claim that Biden was referring to a phone call he had with the Tree of Life’s rabbi, Hazzan Jeffrey Myers, back in 2019.
Biden also went on to struggle with his memory when he could not recall the name of the song “Hava Nagila” while talking about his daughter’s wedding to a Jewish man. He said his mind was going blank and that he could not recall the song that is played where everybody is on the chair.
“They played, my mind is going blank now, what is the song that is played where everybody is on the chair? I can’t remember it. Anyway, that’s the song that was played, so I don’t know what the hell is going on here,” Biden said.
Biden also went on to bring up his favorite hymn from the Catholic Church, but quickly forgot the name of it. He ended his address by telling his audience that the Jewish community is on the backbone of staying with what’s right and that he’s “looking forward” to continue working with him. Problem is, he never worked with them, to begin with. Biden is living in a different reality and it’s clear as day.
