BREAKING: DOJ Issues Federal Charges Against Paul Pelosi Attacker, David DePape

Federal charges have now been filed against David DePape, the California man accused of assaulting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, early Friday morning in San Francisco.

DePape has been charged with attempted kidnapping and assault with intent to retaliate against a federal official by threatening or injuring a family member.

In addition, DePape faces a laundry list of state charges: attempted homicide, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with serious bodily injury, elder abuse, threatening a public official, or family member, battery with serious bodily injury, injuring a wireless communications device, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, and two unnamed felonies described as “code not listed in table – felony” according to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department inmate locator.

An NBC News story reports that Pelosi is awake and has given a statement to investigators.

“Paul Pelosi, 82, remained in the intensive care unit surrounded by family members, a source with knowledge of the situation told NBC News early Monday. The FBI, San Francisco police, Capitol Police and the district attorney got his testimony on Sunday, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation. The source said he is awake and has all of his cognitive functioning and appeared to remember everything — he told them his version of events.”

“On Friday, he “underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” Pelosi’s office said. His doctors expect him to make a full recovery.”

DePape is not expected to appear in federal court Monday.
