Why Rep. Greene Wants A Debate With AOC Over The Green New Deal

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene recently challenged far-left “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to a debate regarding the Democrat’s Green New Deal Proposal. She wrote a series of tweets about discussing the Green New Deal topic in a pay-per-view debate and suggested that the proceeds could be sent to charitable causes. Greene said they could negotiate a major news network to host the debate and both choose one moderator. Let’s see how AOC gets herself out of this one.

“@AOC I’d like to challenge you to a debate on the Green New Deal economic policy. Since you sponsored the Green New Deal and have a degree in Economics, I’m sure you are more than qualified. I just have a degree in Business Admin and have owned a construction company for 20 years. A debate between AOC and I on the Green New Deal economic policy would be informative for the American People. They deserve to hear the two sides with pros and cons,” Greene wrote.

Greene has made headlines over the last few months over controversial remarks and support of former president Donald Trump. House Democrats even voted to strip her of committee assignments earlier this year. But that hasn’t stopped Rep. Greene from raising $3.2 million for her re-election campaign in the first quarter of 2021, which outranked Ocasio-Cortez who raised $728,000 in the first quarter of 2019. She went on Twitter to thank supporters for their small-dollar donations and that she will continue to fight hard for the hardworking American workers and taxpayers.

“The political ruling class fears the people because it’s the people that can take away what they love most. Power. Because it’s power that brings them everything else. I am one of the people and the people are with me, and I will always be with them. WE are just getting started! In the words of my favorite President Trump, “the best is yet to come.” Thank you to all,” Greene tweeted.

The Green New Deal has been in talks since President Biden announced his massive $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan, which House Republicans are calling the “Green New Deal in Disguise.” The bill includes $20 billion to advance racial equity and environmental justice, whatever that means. The bill also includes provisions to fund parts of the Green New Deal and is packed with spending completely unrelated to infrastructure. Only 5% of the entire proposal is allocated towards real infrastructure progress, like improving roads and bridges. An estimated 1 million jobs would be lost under the proposal and taxes would increase in order to fund the hefty legislation.

A recent Politico poll even indicates that 84% of respondents want taxes to remain the same or be lowered and that 60% said they oppose paying more for gas in order to fund the bill. 80% found the bill to be full of “wasteful spending” and 64% were concerned about the increase of consumer prices in the market. Business owners have also fought against provisions of the bill, citing the potential for slowed wage growth and reduced investments.

While the Biden Administration released their own “fact sheets” regarding the definition of infrastructure, everyone else can see past the applied scope, cost, and definitions of their version of “infrastructure.” Some Democrats have even claimed that child care and caregiving are infrastructures. Other parts of the plan include $100 billion to building new public schools and making school lunches “greener,” $200 billion for fixing the power grid, and $174 billion in electric car subsidies.

There’s a reason why Republicans want to break down the Green New Deal and Biden’s Infrastructure plan in front of the public. It’s the same thing.
