As expected, mainstream media outlets opted to barely cover former President Donald Trump’s Ohio rally. Even Fox News turned a blind eye to Trump coverage and chose not to air the rally live. But Newsmax covered the event and drew over 3 million viewers, which surpassed even Fox in key ratings.
Trump’s return to the political stage drew in 1.9 million cable viewers and 1.3 million viewers through free streaming devices. The ratings have signified a huge win for Newsmax, as the platform carries about 30 million fewer U.S cable homes than Fox.
“Clearly Newsmax is not only drawing a huge cable audience as tradition Fox viewers defect to us, we’re tapping into the huge OTT audience Fox doesn’t serve and can’t access,” said Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy.
Newsmax had more than double CNN’s impressions and triple MSNBC’s, during the time period. CNN has seen a steady decline in viewership since January. CNN host Jake Tapper had an average of 2.8 million viewers in January but has fallen to about 706k between the end of May and mid-June. Fox News reported that Jake Tapper has shed about 75% of its audience.
While January featured the Capitol riot, the inauguration of President Biden, and the lead-up to Trump’s second impeachment trial, his time slot lost a fraction of viewers to Fox News. He struggled to maintain viewers in his liberal alternative parallel universe.
CNN even tried to reward Tapper with an extra hour and an expanded show in April but the network has continued to struggle with ratings. They’ve reported a 49% drop in viewership since its first quarter and got beat by a whopping 229% in viewerships during the 5-6p.m. ET window through June 23 compared to Fox News’s “The Five.”
Even Trump pointed out how bad the ratings have been for radical left media outlets. “CNN ratings are down 70%. MSDNC is also way down. Actually, they are ALL way down. They say the news is “boring” since I left D.C. Morning Joe, Joy Reid (whoever that is?), Nicole Wallace, Jake Tapper, and even Chris Wallace, at Fox, in free fall. A wonderful thing to see!” Trump released in a statement.
The media has lost so much credibility after devoting 99% of their time attacking Trump while in office. They continued to undermine and discredit everything he said, just to later admit that he had been right all along.
The mainstream media and journalists across the nation failed to investigate Trump’s claim that the COVID-19 virus started in a lab. They called the lab leak theory “racist” and a “right-wing conspiracy theory.” Now all of those same outlets are investigating the Wuhan Institute of Virology. They’ve lost a year over inaccurate coverage and political bias.
Even CNN’s Brian Stelter is being mocked for claiming that Trump’s Ohio rally was “barely newsworthy” while devoting time to covering himself. He joked at the time that even Fox News did not report on it. One user wrote that “barely newsworthy” is an upward reach for Stelter and that they scrambled to cover Trump’s rally and pretend they don’t care while secretly holding out for much-needed ratings.
CNN and other mainstream media outlets are desperate to misinform the public and push their political bias all day. The plummeting viewership proves that they stopped doing their jobs a long time ago.
