We’ve heard President Biden’s own Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas acknowledge that border facilities are “no place for a child” and even go so far as to blame former President Trump for dismantling the entire system in the first place. It’s always interesting how Trump derangement syndrome truly operates – even when Trump is out of office.
Mayorkas recently told CNN host Dana Bash that the challenges have been “more acute than it has ever been before,” but suggested that they are rebuilding the order systems that the “Trump administration tore down” in order to avoid abandoning the needs of vulnerable children. He defended the actions of the Biden Administration eliminating Trump’s “safe third country” agreements, which had required migrants to seek asylum in another country first if they were passing through a safe country on the way to the U.S.
Mayorkas also told “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace that they are “working on providing access” to allow reporters to see the migrant facility conditions and how children are being treated. Wallace fired back that reporters and camera crews should be allowed into the crowded facilities, in which Mayorkas referred to the fact that we are “in the midst of a pandemic.” Typical double standards of Democrats to bypass coronavirus standards in migrant facilities but use the pandemic as an excuse for media to be denied access to the property.
Donald Trump, however, released a statement criticizing Mayorkas’s response to the US/Mexico border crisis and called it a “national disgrace” that the Biden Administration has provided such a lack of transparency to the American people. He addressed the coverup and called for a “congressional investigation” into the ‘Mayorkas Gag Order’ that had been imposed on border agents and Immigration and Customs enforcement officers.
“We proudly handed the Biden Administration the most secure border in history. All they had to do was keep this smooth-running system on autopilot. Instead, in the span of a just few weeks, the Biden Administration has turned a national triumph into a national disaster,” Trump wrote.
He talks about the record levels of drugs and human and sex trafficking that have been discretely poured through the border, including the enabling and encouraging crimes that are destroying the country around us.
According to former Tucson Border Patrol Chief Roy Villareal, criminal organizations trafficking women, children, families, and single adults have earned as much as $14 million a day in February. U.S taxpayer costs have topped $5 million a day, which comes to about $800 per migrant in terms of hotel rooms and daily shelter costs, as well as a $86 million contract that President Biden just signed for hotel rooms to hold 1,200 migrant families for six months. This doesn’t include the additional costs for extra hotel rooms and overtime that the hundreds of agents who have been reassigned to Texas put in.
Even Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has called the Biden Administration an “abject failure” when it comes to ensuring the safety of migrant children crossing the border. “President Biden’s refusal to address the border crisis is not only enabling criminal actors like human traffickers and smugglers, but it is exposing innocent unaccompanied children to illness and potentially unsafe living conditions,” he said.
Even White House press secretary Jen Psaki accidentally referred to it as a “crisis” in a recent press briefing before a reporter allowed her to clarify that they have been dealing with “challenges on the border” instead. The refusal to acknowledge a crisis, the media blackout, blaming the prior administration, and the influx of migrants, are enough to see that the results of President Biden’s policies are anything but “fair” to American taxpayers – they are catastrophic.
