It would appear that the ongoing WAG and SAG-AFTRA strike that has ground Hollywood to a halt has upset some of its members because it’s stopped the production of “worldview-changing stories” surrounding LGBT characters and scenarios.
As reported by Bounding Into Comics, the SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland lamented that the strike was getting in the way of representation, which has become Hollywood’s primary concern, topping even telling well-made and interesting stories:
Crabtree-Ireland recently appeared at a GLAAD press conference announcing the radical activist organization’s annual report of LGBTQ+ representation. He stated during the press conference, “The studios’ and streamers’ insistence on keeping the industry shut down not only harms the economies of communities that rely on motion picture production, but it’s also detrimental to the pipeline of future projects that feature LGBTQ+ representation.”
He added, “Though some gains have been made in recent years, storytelling that reflects the full, true spectrum of the human experience is currently under attack.”
True to form, this progressive paragon referred to his opponents as “regressive” for interfering in such a bold and necessary quest:
Crabtree-Ireland explained, “The AMPTP companies are complicit in this regressive push if they continue preventing artists from getting back to work and making their worldview-changing stories. Everyone deserves to grow up seeing their identity authentically represented in film and media.”
He then declared, “The companies must come back to the negotiating table, make a fair deal, get writers and performers back to work, and help all of us use the profound power of the medium — along with empowering LGBTQ+ representation — to build a better, more welcoming future for generations to come.”
As Bounding reports, this was echoed by the SAG-AFTRA President herself, Fran Drescher, who stated at a press conference that “there’s a very tiny but loud segment of our population that’s hard at work spreading hate and fear” while trying to squash stories about diversity and representation. Drescher said this stops people from being bold enough to be their “authentic selves.”
WGA Vice President Michele Mulroney also added to the panic stating that these LGBT writers are being shut down as they were just getting started.
“The doors of the entertainment industry began opening to LGBTQ+ writers at a time of significant downward pressure on pay and working conditions under the new streaming model,” she stated. “These writers, whose hearts and minds are bursting with stories they have waited too long to tell, now find themselves in jobs that don’t pay them enough to be able to sustain a career.”
What I hear is that the strike is successfully stopping the production of message-first storytelling. Hollywood has been on the decline due to an emphasis on political statements, agenda-driven representation, and shoehorned-in ideological moments rather than a focus on storytelling, character development, and artistry.
The claim from Mulroney that there are writers “bursting with stories” is hard to believe, seeing as how there aren’t many stand-alone stories being told that feature LGBT focuses, and when there are, they’re oftentimes ignored by audiences due to the overt preachiness of them, or in the case of movies like “Bros,” the movie was a display of gayness for the sake of displaying it.
Most of the time, we’re seeing LGBT representation shoehorned into already-established stories that get remakes or “reimaginings.” Various Disney productions have featured LGBT moments, including the Beauty and the Beast live-action remake and “Lightyear.”
It would appear that outside the people going on strike and the parties that benefit from Hollywood’s propagandizing, few actually care about the strike and don’t miss Hollywood much at all.
With the Union admitting that the strike is holding them back from propagandizing to the people about their leftist politics in order to try to shape their worldview, there’s little doubt that people will likely turn their back even further. Writing LGBT characters and stories is one thing, writing LGBT propaganda in order to preach to people is another.
Hollywood has lost its way and maybe it’s best that it collapses.
At this time there’s no ending in sight, and with the 2024 elections right around the corner, the care from the people about a bunch of Hollywood actors not getting their way is going to be at an all-time low.
