White House press secretary Jen Psaki refuses to denounce communism or even utter the word when being questioned about Cuba. A reporter recently asked her if the administration will try to figure out the ‘root causes’ of why people don’t like communism in Cuba. “Do you think people are leaving Cuba because they don’t like communism?” He asked.
“I think we’ve been pretty clear that we think people are leaving Cuba, or not — leaving Cuba, or protesting in the streets, as well, because they are opposed to the oppression, to the mismanagement of the government in the country. And we certainly support their right to protest, we support their efforts to speak out against their treatment in Cuba,” Psaki said.
She continued saying it raises an important question of what happens when people are seeking protection or attempting to flee. She said they support not just the role of the peaceful protests, but with the Cuban people “in their call for freedom from both the pandemic and from decades of repression and economic suffering.” Not once did she use the words socialism or communism.
Fox News reporter Peter Doocy pointed out that the Cuban people were exhausted and protesting in the streets over decades of communist rule. They were waving American flags and demanding to be treated as human beings over the Cuban Communist Dictatorship. Yet the Cuban government has continued to blame the U.S for the protests and social media for “fanning the flares.” They’ve cut off the internet several times already for the Cuban people.
Former President Donald Trump has urged President Joe Biden to give a demanding statement in support of 100% of the Cuban people and to act on behalf of their freedom. While the administration already blamed some of the protests on COVID-19 vaccine access, they can’t seem to denounce the communist ways of their government. While the Cuban people are protesting for vaccines, the overall message is freedom from a communist regime.
Desantis Deputy Communications Director Evan Berryhill tweeted out that we already knew Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib wouldn’t say anything, but that it would “be great if even a single person in the Biden administration had the courage to speak out against communism.” But hey, why would the administration speak negatively about the very thing they wish to implement?
But according to Psaki, it is nothing but “mismanagement” and a “bad government.” She doesn’t wish to further elaborate on that and apparently, neither does President Joe Biden. She was asked when Biden would speak out against the communism in Cuba and replied “not at this time.” If anyone had any hopes that President Biden would speak out and help the Cuban people, they were wrong.
Not only does the Biden Administration want to avoid talking about it, but they also can’t even name it.
