In a recent interview with CBS, former head of the Food and Drug Administration Scott Gottlieb said that lab leaks “happen all the time” and seemingly suggested that he supports the Wuhan lab leak theory regarding COVID-19 origins. While Gottlieb has been the latest official to support this claim on the virus’s origins, we lost a year of research and investigation due to the fact that the mainstream media suppressed the story…simply because former President Donald Trump said it first.
Gottlieb, who shared his time speaking with “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson, joined CBS to talk about his new book “Uncontrolled Spread: Why COVID-19 Defeated Us and How We Can Beat the Next.” He said it was important to look at public health systems through the lens of national security and focus more attention on the inventories around research labs. He said that there was “asymmetric harm” done to the U.S regarding COVID-19 and that it hurt our country “a lot more” than it hurt many other countries.
Earlier last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that three researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology became sick with “flu-like symptoms” and needed to be hospitalized just months before Wuhan found their first case. While Biden said that the intelligence community has yet to determine the virus’s origins, he pledged to make any relevant findings public and continue investigating the pandemic and lab safety as matters of national security.
“The United States will also keep working with like-minded partners around the world to press China to participate in a full, transparent, evidence-based international investigation and to provide access to all relevant data and evidence,” President Biden said.
Mind you, Biden originally shut down a probe into the lab leak theory, that was started under the Trump Administration, only to order a review of the investigation last week. Biden was never ‘following the science,’ he was following his own political blinders.
Gottlieb’s book talks about getting intelligence services more engaged in the mission and getting international conventions and scientists to work together and try to uncover these kinds of outbreaks. He said they needed “better surveillance in place” and the use of ‘national security tools’ to help prevent deadly outbreaks in the future.
“These kinds of lab leaks happen all the time, actually. Even here in the United States, we’ve had mishaps. And in China, the last six known outbreaks of SARS-1 have been out of labs, including the last known outbreak, which was a pretty extensive outbreak that China initially wouldn’t disclose that it came out of the lab,” Gottlieb said.
Gottlieb said that if there was a lab leak, then they would need a whistleblower to get to the bottom of things. He explained how there hasn’t been enough research and evidence to credit the theory, but called on experts for a deeper investigation. He said that they needed to assess the possibility of a lab leak not in isolation to scientific likelihood, but based on the context of what we know.
Gottlieb claimed that this is no longer a “purely scientific judgment,” but a scientific assessment. “Unless we have a whistleblower or a regime change in China, you’re not going to truly find out,” he warned.
The media seems to have woken up to the possibility that Trump may have been right all along. While the new evidence seems to suggest that COVID-19 did escape from a lab, Gottlieb makes a bigger point that lab security is weak around the world and that we need to prepare ourselves against these threats in the future.
It’s been clear that there’s been no “natural link” for COVID-19 and that people didn’t catch the virus from animals…that can’t catch the virus.
It’s clear that the mainstream media has been ignoring this story for the last year now, even though lab leaks supposedly happen “all the time.” If lab leaks happen all the time, why was there such an obvious effort to deny it could’ve ever happened?
