House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been on the frontlines of mask-wearing hypocrisy – and the latest incident proved that. A few days ago Speaker Pelosi was called out on social media after being spotted attending a White House function maskless and mingling with a huge crowd of about 60 unmasked peers. The news broke out that there were no more masks or social distancing at the White House. Just like that, it’s over.
Conservatives criticized Pelosi for the move, saying that she needs to lift the discriminatory mask rules in the House and fined for not wearing a mask if she’s going to go maskless at the White House. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted that Pelosi was a part of the “House of Hypocrites” for fining House Republicans over her mask rules but doing the same thing in a huge gathering.
Rep. Thomas Massie called out Speaker Pelosi for fining him and other Republicans $500 for not wearing a mask in the House Chamber the same week as she was seen socializing maskless. According to Pelosi, COVID-19 is only transferrable on the House floor, but not in the White House.
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany also called out Pelosi for not wearing a mask in crowded rules despite fining GOP colleagues for following the science and doing the same thing. At this point it’s not about health, it’s about control. “Nancy is no stranger to hypocrisy,” McEnany tweeted.
Pelosi has tried to defend her stance by saying that she submits the “necessary documentation” to attend the event, including vaccination status and negative test results. She’d previously shared that she would reject the science and CDC guidance on masks and keep the mandates in the House. She said it was “unfair” to use the honor system and decide who is vaccinated and who isn’t.

But hey, how can she trust people to do the right thing when she can’t even trust herself? Pelosi wouldn’t know anything about honor. She went to visit a San Francisco hair salon amid pandemic shutdowns with her face mask around her neck and even accused the small business of trying to ‘set her up’ when they said the salon broke guidelines. But the salon owner shot back that if Pelosi was comfortable getting her hair done in the salon, then why were they closed in the first place?
Rep. Andy Biggs, the leader of the House Freedom Caucus, even wrote to CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky asking whether Speaker Pelosi consulted with scientists before continuing the coronavirus mask mandate in the House chamber. He notes that the failure to comply with these protocols can result in up to a $2,500 fine, even if the member has been vaccinated.
“As you know, on May 13, 2012, the CDC announced that fully vaccinated individuals can participate in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing masks or physically distancing. In your own words, ‘If you are fully vaccinated, you are protected and you can start doing things that you stopped doing because of the pandemic,’” the letter reads.
He said it was imperative that the American people know that their elected leaders, particularly the Speaker of the House, are making policy decisions based on scientific evidence, not purely political interests.
While about 75% of House Members have gotten the coronavirus shots, Pelosi said that the remaining House members need to be encouraged to “get the jab” or that the House mask requirements will remain unchanged. Rep. Andy Harris has even called out Dr. Walensky over the new CDC guidelines and that the policies haven’t been implemented at the local level yet. He said he wasn’t getting a straight answer and that “this is why America doesn’t trust public health officials.”
But we all know that Pelosi’s House mask mandate was for power and control, not following the science. She doesn’t want any of the virus protocols lifted because she’ll lose all of the extra power she’s given herself the last year. If the vaccines work and everyone has access to it, then why are masks needed?
