In the wake of several mass shootings, Democrats are keeping their promises to attack gun laws across the states and violate the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners. The Department of Justice announced that they will be taking gun control actions and keeping up with an executive order issued by President Biden to stop the proliferation of ghost guns. While the DOJ has proposed cutting down the production of these ghost guns within 30 days, the Biden Administration has not detailed as to what that would actually entail.
Ghost guns are not currently subject to serial numbers or background checks due to the fact that they are assembled from kits that include one unfinished piece, which is typically the receiver. They can turn a high-powered pistol into a more accurate weapon that fires like a rifle. This would be one of the first moves on gun control to develop rules regarding “ghost guns” and their attachments.
Last month, President Biden announced six executives to address the “Gun Violence Epidemic” in America. This includes an order for the Justice Department to stop the “proliferation of ghost guns” and issue proposed rules to make clear when a device turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the National Firearms Act requirements. “We are experiencing a growing problem: criminals are buying kits containing nearly all of the components and directions for finishing a firearm within as little as 30 minutes and using these firearms to commit crimes. When these firearms turn up at crime scenes, they often cannot be traced by law enforcement due to the lack of a serial number,” the order reads.
President Biden announced plans to punish model “red flag” legislation for states, which would allow family members to petition for a court order to ban people from accessing firearms, and called on Congress to ban assault weapons. He also called on lawmakers to close loopholes on background checks and to include internet gun sales and gun show purchases.
The Department of Justice is also investing in “community violence Intervention” strategies to look at reducing gun violence in urban cities and will issue annual reports on firearm trafficking. They will give these updates to policymakers for addressing weapons trafficking nationwide. President Biden has nominated David Chipman to serve as the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
But gun advocates have been criticizing the President for his attacks on universal background checks for law-abiding gun owners. They’ve pointed out how the Biden Administration has been releasing migrant children at the border to their sponsors before their background checks have even been completed, holding illegal immigrants to a lower standard than American citizens.
An April 28, 2021 polling report from ABC also suggests a 20% drop in gun control support for Americans under the age of 30. The polling points to a drop in momentum for gun control and claims that 50% have prioritized enacting “new gun violence laws” while 43% prefer focusing on Second Amendment rights. When compared to a 2018 report, 57% had prioritized enacting “new gun violence laws” and only 34% had preferred focusing on Second Amendment rights.
Sturm, Ruger, a leading gun manufacturer also reported this year that they had a 50% spike in quarterly sales and nearly doubled in their profits during the COVID-19 pandemic. They reported $183.60 million in net firearm sales for the quarter ending April 3, compared to $122.76 million the year before. The company reports that a “reduction in funding and limitations on law enforcement activities” and civil unrest has prompted many Americans to buy guns for self-protection reasons.
The more the radical left spouts about gun control, the more people start to wise up to the nonsense of it all.
