Why Democrats Never Cared About The George Floyd Trial

Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis officer, was recently found guilty for the death of George Floyd on all three charges including second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. While this is the verdict Democrats pushed for, some are expressing that the verdict does not “wipe out generations of trauma” or “heal the pain that existed for generations.” It’s never enough for some Democrats and at the end of the day, it’s about the power for themselves and their party.

During a recent White House interview, Vice President Kamala Harris told CNN’s Dana Bash that Chauvin’s verdict is a step in the right direction but that it won’t take away all of the pain that communities had experienced when witnessing the George Floyd video.

“This verdict is but a piece of it and it will not heal the pain that existed for generations, that has existed for generations among people who have experienced and first-hand witnessed what now a broader public is seeing because of smartphones and the ubiquity of our ability to videotape in real-time what is happening in front of our faces. And that is the reality of it,” Harris said.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wrote about her disapproval of the verdict on Twitter and how it is not a “substitute for policy change,” adding that millions of people across the country had to organize and march for George Floyd to get justice. She filmed a video for her supporters talking about the verdict and how it should not be “confused” as an example of the system working at all.

“I don’t even think we call it full accountability because there are multiple officers that were there, it wasn’t just Derek Chauvin. And I also don’t want this moment to be framed as the system working because it’s not working. That’s what creates a lot of complexity in this moment,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Former President Barack Obama also wrote about how the jury did the right thing but that ‘true justice’ requires much more. He claims that “true justice” is about coming to terms with the fact that Black Americans are treated differently every day and how citizens live in fear that their next encounter with law enforcement could be their last. “In this case, at least we have our answer. But if we’re being honest with ourselves, we know that true justice is about much more than a single verdict in a single trial,” Obama wrote.

Political commentator Candace Owens, however, told Fox News Tucker Carlson that the trial was not about George Floyd or Derek Chauvin, but rather about if the media was powerful enough to create a simulation and decide upon a narrative absent any facts. While Democrats try to seek more power and implement federal police reforms, Owens said they are happy to know they can create a narrative and treat people like pawns now.

“The reason Democrats are happy is because they realize, of course, the media supports them and [that] now means that Democrats can get whatever they want because they can create a narrative and then they can treat people like pawns and basically get them to say, ‘if we don’t get what we want, we will riot, we will loot, we will send these people out like soldiers to destroy neighborhoods.’ And that is exactly what has happened,” Owens said.

President Biden even said Floyd’s death had “ripped the blinders off” for the whole world to see the systemic racism in America. But for Democrats this was never about protecting justice or dealing with systemic racism, it was always about how much power they could grab and how many bills they could pass. They’ll praise riots and looting as long as it doesn’t come near their doorsteps.
