Ohio’s Sherrod Brown Is Running for Senate, and 2026 Just Got More Hilarious

This is a sad commentary on politicians who have sucked their entire lives off the government teat, and when reality shows them the door, they are still unwilling to go gently into that good night.

This week’s Exhibit A: Former Ohio Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown, who is planning on running in 2026 for… Senate.

The jokes can write themselves.

Democrat Sherrod Brown has decided to run in 2026 for U.S. Senate, attempting a return to the office that he lost last year after a savagely fought reelection campaign, according to Ohio labor leaders Brown told of his thinking.

Brown’s decision, which comes after months of speculation about his political future, gives Ohio Democrats perhaps their best hope of unseating incumbent U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, a Columbus-area Republican appointed to the job earlier this year.

The winner of next year’s Senate campaign will only serve for two years before there’s another election for the seat in 2028. However, Brown’s entry in the race immediately propels Ohio’s U.S. Senate campaign to near the top of Senate Democrats’ priority races next year as they make an uphill attempt to flip the four GOP-held seats needed to win back control of the Senate in 2027.

Yeah, good luck with that. While Republicans should by no means get complacent, early polling shows Husted has a three-point advantage over Brown. After Tuesday’s announcement, Brown received a bump, but once Brown’s record is set on repeat and Husted performs on the stump, it will be Husted’s race to lose. Bet on it.

But deluded Democrats are still mistaking institutional familiarity for actual relevance. My colleague Ward Clark put it most eloquently:

The Democrat Party is, like a fish, rotting from the head down. Just look at their leadership! In the Senate, we have Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who hovers broodingly over his caucus like some dark vulturine figure. In the House, Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) runs from pious pronouncement to dire prediction, all the while casting nervous glances at ebullient Republicans cheering over their latest win. Joe Biden recently shambled forth to deliver… something slurred and repetitive, while Kamala Harris has now taken her infamous word salads to book format. And beneath it all is the specter of Her Imperial Majesty Hillary I, Dowager-Empress of Chappaqua, who on occasion surfaces to make yet another pompous, dishonest statement before returning to the deep, dark depths, there to rest and feed until her next appearance.

Add in some Ivy League campuses full of shouting antisemitic Hamas supporters, Antifa, and hordes of pro-illegal immigration rioters, and you have today’s Democratic Party. And yet they are trying to whistle past the graveyard of the upcoming midterms.

Here We Go: President Donald Trump Makes a (Non) Surprising Endorsement for 2026 Michigan Senate Race

Despite Democrats’ unfavorables increasing, Pod Saves America Bro decided to bluster his way in: because his advice of late has been so very helpful.

WARNING: Strong language insert.

There was momentum within the Ohio Democrat apparatus for Brown to run for governor of the state, assuming he could pick off Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy quite easily. According to a union leader with juice, those hopes were dashed with the announcement of Brown’s Senate run.

Joe Rugola, executive director of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees and a powerful figure within the Ohio Democratic Party, said in an interview that he and several other labor leaders in the state have worked for months to lay the groundwork for Brown to run for governor next year, saying they received “strong signals” that Brown would do so.

“It’s problematic when you receive those kind of signals, and then the reality of it is it turns out to be the opposite,” Rugola said. “That part of it, for many people, is a disappointment.”

These types are banking that an old fossil Democrat can outlast the untested new wave. Either that, or there must be a dearth of young progressives in the Midwest; otherwise, why would you trot out a 72-year-old fossil to run for a seat which he lost clearly and resoundingly?

As Husted was appointed to the Senate in January by Gov. Mike DeWine to take over now-Vice President JD Vance’s seat, a special election will be held in November 2026 to determine who will hold the seat for the final two years of Vance’s Senate term, which expires in 2029.

That means if Brown wins in 2026 and runs for a full six-year term in 2028, the 72-year-old would run intensely fought races in three straight campaign cycles – 2024, 2026, and 2028.

Former Brown colleague and current MO Sen. Eric Schmitt put the “Why” to the why?

According to prognosticators before the Brown announcement was issued, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) was all over this possibility and are busy staging opposition strategies. Which, with Barnacle Brown’s 20-plus year record of graft, corruption, and backing failed Democrat policies, is not hard to do.

New: The NRSC is already going after former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) — even though he hasn’t officially entered the Ohio Senate race.

In a new memo obtained by Punchbowl News, the Senate GOP campaign arm says Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) is in a strong spot to win in 2026.

“As Ohio reddens and conservative momentum grows, Sherrod Brown’s waning legacy will be that of a two-time loser — and Husted is well positioned to defeat him again,” the NRSC memo reads.

Brown consistently outperformed national Democrats in his Senate races, but he lost in November to now-Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). National Democratic figures like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer see Brown as their best bet to flip the Senate seat.

The NRSC is touting that Husted — appointed by GOP Gov. Mike DeWine to fill JD Vance’s vacancy in January — is consolidating Republican support and has consistently won statewide elections in Ohio.

President Donald Trump has also endorsed Husted, ending any chatter of a primary challenge from the right.

The Ohio Republican Party is also all over it, tying Brown to Democrat Socialists like Minneapolis mayoral candidate Omar Fateh. Fateh and Mamdani appear to be the wave of this party’s future — the question is, is this what Ohioans want?

The Ohio Young Republicans are also on the case, bringing the youthful snark and receipts to the old-and-busted aspect of Brown’s candidacy.

Old dog, same tricks. While Ohio Republicans have young Americans leading our nation into the next generation of excellence with leaders like Vivek Ramaswamy and JD Vance, Ohio Democrats have to trot out the same ol’ Sherrod Brown. But let’s be clear, Ohioans aren’t just tired of warmed over politicians, they’re tired of the same tired policies Democrats always chase.

Do Ohioans really want Brown back in the Senate? Current trend leans toward “NO.” While the Democrat Party may be stale, hobbling, and sliding into irrelevancy, they still have the power of their dirty tricks and the ability to fundraise out of the ether. So, Republicans need to treat this like any other election year: nothing is guaranteed except Democrat cheating and shenanigans.

Editor’s Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
