President Trump, for the second time in recent days, suggested he might cut off funding to New York City if “communist” Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor.
The president made the comments as he prepared to travel to Alligator Alcatraz in Florida on Tuesday morning.
“I think he’s terrible. He’s a communist. The last thing we need is a communist,” Trump told reporters. “I said, ‘There will never be socialism in the United States,’ now we have a communist.”
Amazing. We thought the Democratic Party was going too far before when they were electing Squad socialists to Congress, now we have an extremist on every level about to run New York City.
What can Trump do to help the city that never sleeps? He offered this hint.
“I think he’s bad news, and I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with him, watching him,” the president said, pointing toward the White House. “Because he has to come right through this building to get his money. And don’t worry, he’s not going to run away with anything.”
“Frankly, I’ve heard he’s a total nut job. I think the people of New York are crazy. If they go this route, I think they’re crazy.”

What, you mean the guy who eats rice with his fingers while pretending he can relate to third world countries is a “nutjob”? Wild.
As for Trump’s assertion about Mamdani, RedState stalwart reporter Bonchie pointed to a clip in which the likely future mayor of New York City declares he’d like to “seize the means of production,” which, kind of, sorta, seems like what a communist might say.
“There is no more fundamental aspect of communism than seizing the means of production,” Bonchie writes.
Mamdani has also clearly expressed his desire to institute government-run grocery stores, seize housing and set up government communes, and tax “whiter neighborhoods” at a higher rate, something that is very clearly a racist idea.
President Trump, meanwhile, has already suggested he would withhold federal funding from New York City once Mamdani is sitting in Gracie Mansion.
“Let’s say this, if he does get in, I’m going to be president and he’s going to have to do the right thing, or they’re not getting any money,” Trump said in an exclusive interview on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.
“I can tell you this, whoever’s mayor of New York is going to have to behave themselves, or the federal government is coming down very tough on them financially.”
Since Mamdani shocked the political world by besting former New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for mayor, his party has solidly rallied around his extremist views, voicing support and admiration for the candidate.
They’re falling right into the trap. Trump would love nothing more than for his political opponents to embrace a radical as the face of their party, considering such extreme ideas were soundly rejected in the 2024 elections.
