Whoops: MSNBC Finds Out Having a Show With Jen Psaki Might Not Have Been a Good Idea

MSNBC has revamped its lineup. But as we reported, it hasn’t been going well for the network.

In May their prime time line-up was down 24 percent. For total day programming they were down 33 percent. Those are big drops.

One aspect of that revamping included former Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.. After the first 100 days of the Trump presidency, Rachel Maddow returned to only doing one day a week on Monday at 9 p.m. ET, and Jen Psaki took over the rest of the week from Tuesday to Friday.

Now the numbers are in for her, and the ratings have taken a nose dive.

“The Briefing with Jen Psaki” averaged 971,000 total viewers from its May 6 debut through May 28, shedding a staggering 47% of the audience that Maddow and Alex Wagner pulled in at 9 p.m. ET throughout 2025.

Psaki has also hemorrhaged viewers from the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults aged 25-54, averaging 78,000 for a 52% drop compared to the 161,000 demo viewers that Maddow and Wagner averaged on Tuesday through Fridays at 9 p.m. ET before the former Biden spokesperson took over. Wagner hosted Tuesdays through Fridays in Maddow’s usual spot before Trump’s inauguration.

Yikes. Maddow is insufferable and constantly ranting, but it looks like the audience thinks Psaki is worse.

It’s not hard to understand why, having watched her “briefings” with the Biden administration. Maybe I’m biased having suffered through her for that time, but I’m not sure why anyone would find her interesting to watch. Plus, some on the left are now angry with the Biden team, feeling like Joe Biden hanging on initially to run again hurt Democrats’ chances in the election. They may be holding that against her.

Another Biden administration retread is also not doing well. After MSNBC axed Joy Reid, they replaced her show with a group that included Symone Sanders-Townsend, who used to be the spokesperson for Kamala Harris. That show has also taken a hit in the ratings, although not as big a drop as Psaki.

“The Weeknight” debuted on May 5 and averaged 776,000 total viewers through May 28 for a 12% drop compared to the 886,000 total viewers that “The ReidOut” and other temporary programs managed throughout 2025 in the 7 p.m. ET timeslot before changes went into effect.

“The Weeknight” shed even more viewers from the key demo, as the new MSNBC show averaged 72,000 for a 20% decrease, compared to the 90,000 demo viewers who tuned into the 7 p.m. ET timeslot before the ensemble program kicked off.

What that all added up to for MSNBC was their second-worst May in history among both total day and primetime in the demo.

Translation? While hiring the Biden administration reveals once again the closeness between liberal media and Democrats, they’re not going to rescue themselves with Biden retreads. I also have to wonder if they lost some people in the wake of the Biden cognitive health cover-up scandal and if some no longer have faith in what they’re being told there.

But either way, in the time of Trump, they’re losing ground, and it couldn’t happen to more deserving people.
