Dem Rep Maxine Waters’ Campaign Just Got Slapped With a Fine Over Election Violations

Representative Maxine Waters’ campaign has been hit with a $68,000 fine by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) after an investigation found that it accepted and disbursed contributions exceeding allowable amounts.

The violations involved Citizens for Waters accepting $19,000 in excessive contributions from multiple individuals, exceeding the $2,800 individual limit, as well as making $7,000 worth of “prohibited cash disbursements” from a petty cash fund, all during the 2020 election cycle.

The group’s treasurer, referred to as the “committee” in the FEC filing, is accused of “knowingly accepting excessive contributions” and “failing to accurately report both receipts and disbursements made.”

Along with the sizable fine, Waters’ (D-CA) campaign is sending their Treasurer “to a Commission-sponsored training program for political committees.”

Legal counsel for her campaign, in a letter to the FEC amid the investigation, admitted “errors were made which were not willful or purposeful.”

The FEC, in a bipartisan 4-0 vote, opted to accept the agreement and will subsequently close the file on the matter.

Maxine Waters Under Fire Again for Shady Campaign Finance Practices – Is She Still Above the Law?

The stench of corruption has stuck to Rep. Waters throughout much of her nearly 35 years in Congress. And a $68,000 fine is peanuts for a lawmaker whose net worth lies in the millions.

In 2004, a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed her family members made more than $1 million in the previous eight years “by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that Waters has helped.”

The Democrat was named one of the “most corrupt” members of Congress in 2011 by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

In 2017, former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson questioned how Waters owns a 6,000-square-foot mansion worth $4.3 million on the salary of a congressional representative.

“How did she afford a place like that after having spent the last 40 years working in government?” Carlson asked, adding, “We hate to speculate.”

In 2023, Fox News Digital reported that Waters’ campaign paid her daughter $192,300 for a “slate mailer” operation from January 2021 to December 2022. In years past, her daughter had received over $1.2 million for the same type of operation.

“Slate mailer” is just a term for a mass mailing of campaign literature.

The mailers are something the Los Angeles Times previously described as her family “making money not only because of Waters’ power in Washington but because of the way she uses her local political clout.”
