When President Trump re-assumed office, one of his stated goals was to protect women’s sports. Specifically, the president vowed to bring an end to the practice of allowing transgender women, otherwise known as men, to compete unfairly against women, in women’s sports leagues and teams. The president made changes to Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school that receives federal funding, to ensure that only women would be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
There has, as you might imagine, been some pushback from blue states and cities. On Friday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the creation of the Title IX Special Investigations Team to look into schools and universities that are defying Title IX.
The post reads:
Protecting women and women’s sports is a key priority for this Department of Justice. This collaborative effort with the Department of Education will enable our attorneys to take comprehensive action when women’s sports or spaces are threatened and use the full power of the law to remedy any violation of women’s civil rights.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon also on Friday, made some remarks on the new team.
The Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the Title IX Special Investigations Team (SIT) to handle cases, particularly targeting transgender women in sports, because “traditionally, our Office for Civil Rights [OCR] takes months, even years, to complete Title IX investigations,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said Friday.
“OCR under this Administration has moved faster than it ever has, and the Title IX SIT will ensure even more rapid and consistent investigations,” McMahon said. “To all the entities that continue to allow men to compete in women’s sports and use women’s intimate facilities: there’s a new sheriff in town. We will not allow you to get away with denying women’s civil rights any longer.”
While this is a vital step, we shouldn’t expect the schools and universities who are defying Title IX to just knuckle under. They won’t.

The Title IX Special Investigations Team will consist of investigators and attorneys from the federal Office of Civil Rights, the Education Department Office of General Counsel, and the Education Department of Student Privacy and Protection. There will also be attorneys from the Justice Department’s Civil Rights division.
This will very likely be a battle that will drag out for some time. The Trump administration has one primary weapon to bring to bear: Denial of federal funding to any school system or university that fails to comply with the administration’s interpretation of Title IX. The number of attorneys attached to the team would make it seem likely that lawsuits will be the backup. Advocates for “transgender” women – men – in women’s sports will no doubt try to drag the matter out, hoping for another Democrat candidate to win the White House in 2028 and restore the Biden-era rules. But that may prove to be a wish in vain, as this is one of those 80-20 issues that President Trump is frequently pointing out that the Democrats are on the wrong side of.
It’s not going to be quick or easy, but this is a battle that must be fought.
President Trump is fighting to dismantle the Department of Education and ensure America’s kids get the education they deserve.
