Democrat Senator Elissa Slotkin (MI) took multiple shots at the progressive wing of her party, referring to Senate colleague Bernie Sanders (I-VT), along with Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) as little more than activists.
She unloaded these comments during a Medicaid roundtable in Flint, Michigan.
“I have done as much as I feel like I’m capable of doing to respond in words to what Trump is doing, but I can’t just be an activist,” said Slotkin.
She contends it’s also about actions.
When one person at the forum openly wondered what Slotkin had done for her constituents compared to AOC, Sanders, and Crockett, who have been “screaming, enraged, passionate” since the election, the senator delivered a very frank response.
Aside from downplaying the screeching progressives as ‘just activists,’ Slotkin really hammered AOC by name, according to CNN’s coverage of the event.
She said that working hard to combat the Trump administration’s attempts to cut waste, fraud, and abuse from the federal government requires her to be more than “an activist full time.”
“All of those things require me to be more than just an AOC. I can’t do what she does because we live in a purple state, and I’m a pragmatist,” Slotkin insisted.

As for the Vermont socialist and the perpetually cursing congresswoman from the Lone Star State, well, they’ve done very little in her eyes as well.
“Everyone you mentioned has a lot of words, but what have they actually done to change the situation with Donald Trump and the cuts and the attacks on our judiciary and the attacks on our Constitution?” Slotkin wondered.
If the fracturing of the Democrat party, with its attempts to combat Hurricane Trump, which is currently storming Washington, D.C., weren’t apparent through Slotkin’s comments, there is the symbolism as well.
Slotkin is currently addressing Medicaid concerns to constituents in her state, while the activist group in AOC and Sanders is engaged in a rock star-esque tour stop in Las Vegas.
Yes, that’s right, the duo is holding a “Fighting Oligarchy” event in Sin City. The title of that event is roughly four syllables more than AOC can usually understand in any given sentence. Good on her for stepping up her game.
Don’t let Slotkin fool you. While she likes to play a middle-of-the-road “pragmatist” on TV, she’s just as much an activist as the rest of them.
She failed to even vote on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act and fretted over Elon Musk Musk and “his gang of 20-year-olds using their own computer servers to poke through … your bank accounts.”
Slotkin even said Americans in the Trump era are like teenagers whose brains have yet to fully form. This is ironic from a member of the party that has Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez, and Crockett as their current leaders.
