With the mainstream media and Political Pundit World busy essentially declaring Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign over not even two months after he formally announced, what’s an excitable MSNBC host to do?
Tell us who the left really fears, that’s what.
As RedState has previously reported, in their own not-so-unique but nevertheless illuminating way, members of the press, their allies on the left, as well as the truuuuue conservatives at the Lincoln Project, have been busy bees over the last year and a half or so telling us how DeSantis is “worse than Trump” because DeSantis in their view, is – to paraphrase – former President Donald Trump “without the baggage.”
DeSantis is smarter, he’s savvier, more disciplined, and knows exactly how the government works, they’ve also said in so many words, making him in their opinion a far more worrisome figure than Trump because deep down they know he’s consistently demonstrated that he understands how to beat Woke, Inc. at their own games – and without breaking much of a sweat in the process.
Now, to be fair, this is also how some of DeSantis’ defenders on the right have spoken of him. But when they have done it, it’s been to portray those points as positives not negatives. The woke left, on the other hand, obviously sees them as “dangerous” negatives and so much so that they’re willing to go back on every nasty thing they ever said about Trump in order to make sure he’s the guy Biden faces in the fall election next year, not DeSantis.
Case in point, MSNBC’s Katie Phang, who filled in for Chris Hayes on the “All In” program Monday night. In a discussion about “mini fascist” DeSantis, Phang made it more than clear where she stood:
“I’m gonna beat this drum until the cows come home. I still don’t want a Ron DeSantis. I’ll take a Donald Trump over a Ron DeSantis any day. Ron DeSantis is a leaner, meaner Donald Trump, and I will go to the grave on that one. Thanks guys for being here.”

If that’s not a backhanded “endorsement” of sorts for DeSantis, I don’t know what is.
Keep in mind here that another reason leftist commentators like Phang “prefer” Trump over DeSantis is because they feel like Biden would have an easier job of defeating Trump than DeSantis in a general election campaign. “The View” co-host Joy Behar said as much back in March:
"Trump is the one who needs to get the nomination because the Democrats will win."

As I’ve said before, The Usual Suspects are playing favorites now not because they like Trump but because they need him to win the nomination, and not just because they view him as unelectable, but because they’d love nothing more than to make the 2024 general election all about Trump and doom and gloom him just like they did in the general in 2016.
Nothing would be better for them and their standing among the cocktail circuit elite than to have Trump in the limelight for as long as possible, as that would give these people more opportunities to pretend, as they did for four years, that they have the moral high ground when it comes to all things Trump.
As to if they’re right on it being easier for Biden to defeat Trump than DeSantis, the polls at this stage in the game on that vary depending on who is taking them. And as we all know, polls this early on aren’t always all that reliable.
The bottom line is, though, that the Dem/media industrial complex are busy trying to pick the GOP nominee, and Republican voters and independent voters who tend to vote for Republicans shouldn’t let them.
To reiterate points I’ve made before, these voters should make judgments about candidates based on not just listening to them but researching their records and seeing what their accomplishments are. Because there are few things the media loves more than trying to manipulate voters ahead of primaries and elections, and I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve had it up to here with these folks telling me how I should think and for who to vote.
