The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention has been attempting to clean its credibility for quite some time now. While giving flip-flip COVID-19 recommendations, the CDC is also turning and twisting its policies to pop off on guns. It was only a matter of time before Democrats started attacking the Second Amendment again. Only this time, the nation’s top public health agency isn’t really in a position to comment on guns.
CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky recently shared in a CNN interview that something has to be done about gun violence in America. She said it was pedal to the metal time in addressing some of the key issues “harming America’s health” and that she swore to the President and this country that she would “protect your health.” Nobody is asking the CDC to protect their health and certainly not Walensky.
“The scope of the problem is just bigger than we’re even hearing about, and when your heart wrenches every day you turn on the news, you’re only hearing the tip of the iceberg. We haven’t spent the time, energy, and frankly the resources to understand this problem because it’s been so divided,” Walensky said.
Critics argued that gun violence isn’t a public health issue, but a crime issue. While people can get physically injured by guns, it’s not up to doctors to create the policies surrounding the weapon used. The doctors are there to treat the wounds. Democrats are pushing gun violence research and public health threats however they can to try and strip the Second Amendment.
Walensky told CNN that the agency is spending about $10 million to restart research and fund the tracking of gunshot wounds. She said they are “trying to find common ground” with gun owners, and that saying the word guns already angers many Americans. She called it one of the “leading killers of our young people in this country” and claimed it was not a conversation about banning them.
Walensky went on to say that she wants gun owners to be a part of the solution and “at the table” in helping people not get hurt by them. Democrats still can’t seem to figure out that the only solution is the finger behind the trigger. It’s all up to the person. Still, they’d rather pour $10 million on 18 different studies that only point to preventing injury from firearms.
“Come to the table. Join us in the conversation. I want you to teach me what you have done to make your gun safe, and then I want you to teach everybody else… We cannot understand the research of firearm violence, firearm injury, without embracing wholeheartedly, the firearm-owning community,” Walensky said.
NRA spokesman Lars Dalseide said the organization has never been opposed to legitimate research into the dynamics of violent or firearm-related crime, but that they do oppose government-funded research meant to promote gun control.
“Unfortunately, given the Biden administration’s history of hostility towards law-abiding gun owners, we fear any studies under Dir. Walensky’s care will begin with a gun control conclusion and solely focus on data points designed and intended to support their cause,” Dalseide said.
President Biden has continued to call this a “gun violence public health epidemic,” which means that any research coming out of the administration is bound to look bad. Or at least push the narrative they want.
