It’s fairly apparent that with the recent fall of Kabul and consequently the entire nation of Afghanistan to the Taliban, the Biden Administration is getting a lot of attention and press. And not all of it is good.
Clearly, many people, myself included, don’t believe that pulling our troops out of the Middle Eastern nation was the wisest of decisions. At the very least, they could have handled it better.
Instead, much of what we have going on right now reminds us all too much of the infamous fall and evacuation of Saigon in 1975 following the failed Vietnam War.
As Fox News pointed out recently, “This week’s scenes of crowds gathering at Kabul’s airport and U.S. military helicopters arriving to pick up passengers at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan’s capital revived grim memories of desperate Vietnamese people trying to board U.S. helicopters as they left the embassy in Saigon more than four decades ago.”
I don’t think I have to tell you that isn’t a good thing for the Biden administration.
As such, you’d think they would be doing everything in their power to save face, cover their tracks, and get the country to move on.
Now, to be clear, in some ways, they most certainly are. In fact, they have quickly rushed Vice President Kamala Harris off on a tour of Asia, no doubt to deflect some of the attention from current happenings in Kabul.
However, at least one place the leading Democrat is scheduled to visit has all the makings of a PR nightmare.
So, where is she being sent? Why, Vietnam, of course…
That’s right at a time when Kamala and her boss are being tied to one of the gravest and most disappointing falls of democracy in the modern era, she is making her way to visit and, no doubt, make public appearances in a place that does little to remind us of another very similar military mistake.
The optics are so bad that if the trip hadn’t already been planned before the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan’s capital, I’d say President Joe Biden, or someone high up on his staff didn’t like Kamala Harris very much and as was trying to make her look as bad as possible.
I mean, it doesn’t get much worse than that.
According to Fox, Harris is scheduled to arrive in Vietnam on Tuesday.
“The prospect of Harris visiting Vietnam at this particular moment raise the possibility of the worst photo op for an American in that country since Jane Fonda donned a helmet there in 1972,” the outlet said.
And they certainly aren’t wrong.
If America wasn’t humiliated enough at the moment, let’s just rub some salt on that gaping wound and send our VP to remind us of more past failings…
Of course, according to a Biden administration senior official, this is far from the objective of the trip.
As Yahoo News reported, this official and other senior aides to Harris noted that the trip was “critical” for reasons that had little if anything to do with Afghanistan. The outlet reported that she and her team were “determined that her visit to the region should not be canceled despite escalating chaos in Afghanistan.”
Additionally, it was said that Harris would be keeping in close contact with Washington and her colleagues to stay “engaged on the subject of Afghanistan,” all while pursuing these other “important interests.”
As one official stated, “So, you know, others can speculate all they want about, you know, what took place after the war and what that led to. They’re very different countries in very different parts of the world.”
And yes, to some degree, that is very true. What we fought for in Vietnam is very different than what our armed forces attempted to do in Afghanistan. However, it won’t stop anyone from connecting the two events and their similarity ends. Neither will prevent anyone from pointing out that neither Biden, who was already well versed in politics during the Vietnam War, nor Harris seemed to have learned any lessons from our history.
I think it’s safe to say the Biden administration will never live this one down, and Kamala’s visit to Vietnam so soon afterward will only make it all the more memorable.
I was thinking after reading this article and have decided to list all of the Administrations accomplishments:
1. Allowing an INVASION ON OUR SOUTHER BORDER
2. Unprecedented RISE IN INFLATION never seen before
3. Destruction of thousand of jobs lost due to shutting down Keystone Pipeline and Drilling
4. Allowing of BLM and ANTIFA to burn down business and murder people (Portland)
5. Not following the Science concerning COVID (i.e. – U.S. Death Rate was down by .1% in 2020 over 2019 so where are all of the dead people?)
6. Defying the U.S. Supreme Court on Rent Payment Moratoriums (OH, I forgot laws do not apply to Democrats).
7. Denying 9-11 file access that was to be released this year
8. Afghanistan withdrawal being handled like a child having a temper tantrum.
9. Proving the Taliban with a list of U.S. Citizens, Afghans who assisted the U.S. and others who the Taliban will hunt down and kill
10. Trying to talk away our RIGHT TO VOTE with HR1 leaving the State’s hands cuffed during elections
11. Declaring all Trump supporters as Domestic Terrorist instead of the Domestic Terrorist (BLM & ANTIFA)
WAIT I have always thought accomplishments were POSITIVES not NEGATIVES, guess my definition was wrong. This Administration is in TOTAL CHAOS!
