Americans are frustrated and concerned that the recent changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic could cause more loss of rights even than what has already been lost. Chief among those rights are medical and medical privacy.
The advent of the COVID-19 vaccines and all the political baggage that came along with them caused freedom-loving Americans to aqueous to things they would have, just a year before, vowed they would never cooperate with. However, the fear of death, for themselves and their families, has caused many to do things they thought impossible.
The Biden administration, however, drunk on the power to do what no president or administration before them has done, might just have pushed the envelope too far, and Americans are not delighted with the new edict.
The “new normal” morphed into a set of rules and regulations that must be followed to win back freedom, and at the top of that list is getting the vaccine. While many have already done so, a lot of others, including thoughtful medical professionals, have declined the as yet largely unpredictable shots, and that fact isn’t sitting well with those in power.
According to a report in the Independent Journal Review, a Biden administration official has said that the American people no longer have a right to keep their health private. U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra made the comment when being interviewed recently on CNN’s “New Day” when questioned about criticism from Republican lawmakers on the Biden administration’s forthcoming “door-to-door outreach” for vaccination information.
When questioned whether he agreed that it was “none of the government’s business” whether a given person was vaccinated or not, Becerra responded, “The federal government has spent trillions of dollars to try to keep Americans alive during this pandemic. So it is absolutely the government’s business. It is taxpayers’ business.”
“It is our business to try to make sure Americans can prosper, Americans can freely associate,” he continued. “And knocking on the door has never been against the law. You don’t have to answer, but we hope you do.”
Just as many suspected might happen, the Biden administration has decided it’s not only their responsibility to offer the option of a vaccine for those who wish to take the precaution, it’s the government’s responsibility to save Americans from themselves, and not only protect the vaccinated, but protect the unvaccinated, from themselves (and also the vaccinated from the unvaccinated, despite the fact that the vaccine is supposed to protect them).
The question remains: how are the unvaccinated a threat to anyone other than themselves if the vaccine is working? And if it’s not working, how does the government have a right to mandate it? While it’s understandable that the government might want the American people to take something, even if it were to only decrease their chance of contracting COVID by 50 percent, the government might also want Americans to all follow the food guide pyramid, or work out for an hour a day to decrease the load on the healthcare system, and one of those things are items that it’s legally allowed force Americans do.
Once again, government officials have shown that what the government puts money into they believe they have a say over. So while we might have all felt it was a nice gesture for the government to leap into action to help with citizens health, the strings attached have now become taught, and we, like a dog hitting the end of the chains tied by it’s only sometimes benevolent owner, are likely to soon be left choking on the ground, wondering how out trust and submission could have gone so wrong.
