Every day, Big Tech continues to narrow the bounds of acceptable discourse on social media platforms to favor only one side of the political spectrum. Conservative comedian Steven Crowder is taking it into his own hands and has filed a lawsuit against Youtube and, according to him, “This is the big one, boys and girls.”
The lawsuit follows his second “strike” under the pretext of harassment and cyberbullying with a video on the shooting death of Ma’khia Bryant by a police officer. Bryant was attacking another person with a knife right before the officer shot her. Crowder argued that the shooting was justified and made jokes about the circumstances of the shooting.
According to Youtube, the video exhibited “content reveling in or mocking the death or serious injury of an identifiable individual.” Crowder denied mocking Bryant, but even Richmond noted that “Louder With Crowder” is a comedy show and is exempted under YouTube’s policy.
He earned his first strike for “coronavirus misinformation” on a popular hour-long COVID rebuttal video that had over half a million views. In the video, Crowder said he was going to uncover the coronavirus lies and expose the “liars who told them.”
“This video violates our COVID-19 misinformation policy, which prohibits content claiming that the death rates of COVID-19 are less severe or equally as severe as the common cold or seasonal flu. As a result, the video was removed from Steven Crowder’s channel, YouTube said in a statement.
If Crowder’s Youtube channel receives one more strike in the 90-day window, then he would be permanently cut off from the channel and his 5 million YouTube followers. He argued that neither of the videos that received strikes actually violated any policies on Youtube.
“It’s tantamount to saying, no conservatives are welcome. I do not say this to boast. You know I never talk about the numbers on my show because I want the content to speak for itself, but this is far and away from the No. 1 show on new media. Period. We beat Kimmel. We beat Trevor Noah. We beat these guys every single day. Every single day. But it’s not because of us — it’s conservative views. These views are not welcome. And the reason we’ve filed an injunction for immediate relief is to make sure our channel is still up, that we know what steps to take next,” Crowder told Glenn Beck on the radio program.
Crowder announced on his brand-new Rumble channel that he and his lawyer Bill Richmond had filed a lawsuit against Big Tech YouTube for suspending his channel for allegedly violating their deadlines. He said the lawsuit is to prevent them from “deplatforming us” and that the first and second hard strikes against his channel were similarly vague, leaving the host and attorney guessing at what triggered YouTube’s actions. Crowder said that the lawsuit is also about protecting free speech, rather than just the censoring of his channel.
“This really isn’t just about us. We can find ways that we can broadcast to you. But this is the world’s most powerful company – arguably, when you look at YouTube, Google, Alphabet – and they make sure that they ghost you where people cannot find, not us, but the point of view,” Crowder said.
Crowder explains how dangerous it is that Big Tech companies can bury so much truth regarding the information people receive under misguided and unexplained policies. While it is a comedy show, Richmond explains that they discuss and talk about important issues everyone is facing in every part of the nation.
“What [YouTube is] saying is these ideas are so dangerous that we can’t address them or rebut them, we can’t criticize them, we just have to extinguish the opinions entirely. We have to eradicate these opinions from the planet because we can’t deal with them,” Richmond said.
Crowder also sued Facebook over unfair competition, fraud, false advertising, and antitrust violations after they removed his 2020 Election stream, which was the biggest stream that has ever existed, for no reason. The Christian satire site, The Babylon Bee, and other Christian-related channels have been censored by Facebook after similar accusations of spreading “misinformation.”
Youtube’s policies affect every person who believes in the First Amendment. It is stifling free-flowing ideas and opinions from conservative content creators on all platforms – and they are only getting more suppressed and silenced by the day. For the radical left and Big Tech to preach “equality” as often as they do, you’d think they’d be better at showing it.
