House speaker Nancy Pelosi joined the Congressional Black Caucus at Capitol Hill to praise the guilty verdict and thank George Floyd for “sacrificing his life” in the name of justice. Police officer Derek Chauvin, 45, was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the George Floyd trial.
Instead of painting Floyd as a victim, Pelosi made him out to be a hero by using the word ‘sacrifice’ and implying that he had a choice. But he didn’t. She’s just thanking him for serving her and the Democrats political agenda. The left loves politicizing nationwide riots and chaos as long as it doesn’t come to their doorstep.
“Thank you, George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice. For being there to call out to your mom — how heartbreaking was that — call out for your mom, ‘I can’t breathe.,’ Because of you and because of millions of people around the world who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice. And now we have to make sure justice prevails in the sentencing,” Pelosi said.
Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Joyce Beatty shared that the group would be working towards police reform and that they will fight continuously for all of those who have died or been injured senselessly by law enforcement. Pelosi ended her speech by thanking Jesus and God, along with Floyd’s family for being faithful believers.
The House Speaker adds that the guilty verdict is a “step in the right direction for justice done” but insists on passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to make sure other families “don’t suffer the same racism, violence and pain.” The Act would overhaul standards for police tactics and conduct at the federal level, as well as put a ban on chokeholds and “qualified immunity” for law enforcement.
Pelosi was heavily criticized for her tone-deaf comments and appeared to clarify her remarks on Twitter.
“George Floyd should be alive today. His family’s calls for justice for his murder were heard around the world. He did not die in vain. We must make sure other families don’t suffer the same racism, violence & pain, and we must enact the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act,” Pelosi wrote.
Journalist Annika Roshstein said Pelosi was the type of “lunacy” when you view people as nothing but pawns for your cause. Others pointed out that he didn’t sign up to be murdered by a cop and would be alive today if he hadn’t resisted arrest. Media and political consultant Timothy Burke called the House Speaker’s remarks “absolutely bizarre.”
If Pelosi isn’t the best indication of why we need term limits, then I don’t know what is.
