One of the hot topics that Democrats push and instill fear into the lives of many Americans includes the lingering fight for “climate change.” President Joe Biden even campaigned on transitioning to renewable energy and completely emerging into industries with a low-carbon future, such as electric vehicles.
But his climate change agenda to phase out coal and oil with clean energy technology completely has split the political parties. Under the Biden administration’s climate plan, they would completely redirect the funding for clean energy and continues canceling offshore drilling projects. This, ironically, could be the most environmentally destructive thing they could do.
While President Biden has pushed for moving entirely to solar and wind powers, there are a lot more disastrous effects to installing wind turbines than people think. Wind turbines require 360 times more land than the same amount of power generated by natural coal and gas, as well as the mining of rare earth minerals necessary for solar and wind equipment. Rare earth mining is considered so destructive that only a few nations freely allow it, including China.
Shifting entirely to wind turbines would also make America completely dependent on China for the materials needed to maintain its energy infrastructure. The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service also estimates that the increasing wind power would kill between 140,000 and 500,000 birds each year, including many protected and endangered species.
Not to mention, critics recently blamed the failure of wind turbines in Texas for the power shortages they experienced. A little bit of frost on the wind turbines or a lack of sun would indefinitely shorten the amounts of power in solar and wind technology necessary to maintain the power grid nationwide. “The windmills failed like the silly fashion accessories they are, and people in Texas died,” Fox News’s Tucker Carlson said.
The Biden Administration recently announced that they plan on spending an additional $3 trillion in new spending on funds for roads and bridges and addressing climate change, as well as income inequality. While they have not released any of the plan’s features, it is set to include projects on enhancing cellular network and adding electric car charging stations on the roads, as well as dealing with universal pre-K, a national child care initiative, free community college tuition, and paid family leave.
Many GOP lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, lashed out against the plan arguing that it will only raise taxes. They also questioned what an additional 3 trillion dollars of “climate change” and “infrastructure spending” means if their “COVID relief” spending money was for funding foreign countries and government pet projects. Biden’s very own transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg has even proposed mileage-based taxes.
“We’re hearing the next few months might bring a so-called ‘infrastructure’ proposal that may actually be a Trojan horse for massive tax hikes and other job-killing left-wing policies,” McConnell said.
The Democrats’ talk of banning oil and drilling, as well as the ‘end of peak oil’ and how long oil reserves will last has been an ongoing political debate for some time now. The only thing both parties know for certain is that it takes away hundreds of thousands of jobs.
It’s one thing to transition into cleaner energy sources over a period of time and another to ban federal lands from drilling, strip hundreds of thousands of jobs during a pandemic, and move entirely to a “one-size-fits-all” strategy to energy. President Biden already killed 11,000 jobs with the stroke of a pen after canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline project, which would’ve efficiently transferred clean oil. There are safer ways to push the production of fossil fuels without destroying the nation’s economy. But Democrats like to make it all or nothing – anything for more tax hikes.
