If we are listening much to Washington and what’s coming out of the White House, COVID-19 is still very much a threat. While we now have what many are calling a viable vaccine, those like Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are not backing down on the need for social distancing and masks, as well as population limitations.
And yet, if we watch, as well as listen, those same voices don’t seem overly concerned that America is on the verge of a third major COVID wave, and it’s all due to massive amounts of immigration.
A prime example of this hypocrisy comes to us in the form of newly elected congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa. As any right-minded individual, Miller-Meeks knows that the spread of the coronavirus will never be entirely stopped in America if we continue to let people through our borders who may have the deadly disease.
And so she recently put together a proposed bill to combat that.
It’s called the REACT Act and would essentially require that all illegal immigrants who have been arrested and detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP) be tested for the virus before being released into the border communities where they will await their hearing.
In a statement on Tuesday, she said, “This week, I traveled to El Paso, Texas, to meet with CBP agents and officers. I saw firsthand the crisis they are facing, and I believe it is our job in Congress to address it and assist them. Approximately 50% of agents have tested positive for COVID-19, and very few migrants are being tested.”
No wonder CBP is having a hard time catching illegals, with half of them out sick or quarantined.
She continued, “My REACT Act would require that every migrant released from CBP or ICE custody is tested and receives a negative test. Border security and immigration is not an issue that only affects border states, it affects every community across the country. By ensuring that individuals entering the country are negative for COVID-19, we can help keep our communities safe and healthy.”
And as she pointed out later, while speaking about her bill on the House Floor, our southern border is very nearly being flooded.
“CBP is currently encountering more than 3,000 migrants on average, per day, which is rapidly approaching levels seen at the height of the 2019 crisis.”
And if that number continues to rise, as it is expected to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says, “We are on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years.”
That’s 3,000 individuals a day who may have COVID-19 and are bringing it across the border. And once they get here, they are being detained and held in facilities that some are reporting to be a 729 percent capacity, as there is just not enough space to put them all.
That means no social distancing and not enough masks for everyone. With conditions like that, the virus will spread like wildfire.
But that’s not even the worst of it.
Once these migrants have been detained in close proximity to hundreds of other possibly infected individuals long enough to be processed, they are put on buses and released into towns all along our borders to wait out sentencing – all without being tested for COVID.
You would think this would be a no-brainer for Congress and one of the easier bills to handle this quarter.
However, lawmakers on the Hill aren’t always known for their common sense, are they?
Instead of choosing to bring the bill to a vote and pass it for the sake of Americans everywhere, House Dems refused to even listen to it.
Before Miller-Meeks could barely finish her proposal speech, Dems were already moving to block the motion. It was even allowed to be voted on.
So much for really caring about the American people or even the migrants for that matter, huh? They have just sufficiently proved that all their talk of keeping America safe and healthy is nothing more than virtue signaling.
