National Guard Troops At Capitol Hospitalized After Being Served Raw Meat

Members of Michigan’s National Guard defending the U.S Capitol recently got sick after being fed meat that was almost completely raw, as well as shaved metal being found in the undercooked meat. Guard Members have been increasing spending their own money on meals because they no longer trust the food that is being supplied to them, with much of the food being tossed in the trash. Many of these troops have served overseas and cannot believe the quality of food they are being fed.

More than a dozen troops have gotten ill after being served undercooked meals in D.C and reported the alleged food issues to local news outlets. The story was reportedly sent up the chain of command all the way through to Michigan’s congress, including Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Lawmakers and Gov. Whitmer were informed that the food issues had been resolved, but new complaints later emerged in the week.

In a letter to lawmakers, Lt. Col. Robert N. Carver wrote that it was “completely unacceptable” that the men and women serving in Washington D.C are being hospitalized due to the food they are being served.

“Since January 6, there have been no National Guard members hospitalized because of illness from food. Out of the 26,000 who were deployed and the 5,200 who remain, approximately 50 have been treated for gastrointestinal complaints. Six of them were treated as outpatients at military treatment facilities; others were handled at aid stations set up as part of the Task Force. The National Guard continues to closely monitor the quality and safety of meals provided to its personnel,” said Lt. Col. Robert N. Carver.

Soldiers shared images of meat looking completely raw in the middle and said other troops have been getting sick and vomiting after eating. They wrote that a typical breakfast was “maybe a Danish and some sort of juice” while at times it was “clearly a dinner roll and SunnyD.” “Yesterday, for instance, there were 74 different meals found with raw beef in them,” an anonymous staff sergeant with the Michigan National guard told news sources.

Rep. Jack Bergman, a retired Marine Corps lieutenant general who represents northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, posted on Facebook that the additional issues of contaminated and undercooked food being served to our troops is ‘unacceptable.’ He said our troops don’t demand a 5-star resort or expensive food, but at a minimum, deserve meals that are safe to consume.

“This is an embarrassment for all those responsible for the care of our troops, and must be met with full accountability. I’m proud of the Michigan’s unwavering attitude to complete their mission. It’s time to get our troops home to their families,” Rep. Bergman wrote.

Michigan state lawmakers also wrote a letter to National Guard Bureau Chief Gen. Daniel Hokanson, insisting action be taken against the current food provider. The meals were provided by an undisclosed food vendor that was contracted by the Pentagon. They requested that either the current contract be voided and a new food provider be brought in or that the service members be provided with a per diem throughout their remaining time in Washington, D.C.

Guard members were also forced to spend their break time in a parking garage near the Capitol and rest on the floor inside the building until cots were provided.

We should wonder why 6,000 troops are still standing outside the Capitol to defend a handful of lawmakers and a sleepy President in the first place. This is how Democrats feel about the heroes, service members, and people who defend our freedoms.
